What I have found is that there are many Second Life residents who network through standard social media sites. Plurk is a favorite for a lot of people who are at work behind standard firewalls that block social media like Facebook, Twitter, and such. Plurk is a micro-blogging social network that allows its users to send plurks or status updates to their set of friends. The plurks can contain URL links, images, of 360 characters. The first step to plurking like a pro is to join here it is free. When creating your user name it is a good idea to choose a user name that is the same as what people in-world are familiar with using. It makes it easier in discovering friends and making new ones.
Customize your profile, upload your avatar picture and if you have a website make sure to include a link. This makes you more approachable and gives you credibility in what you plurk. Most others on plurk are there to strike a conversation and connect with others so give them a good impression.
The content that you should share on Plurk should be a variety of informational tidbits that allow for a response from others. Instead of just posting the URL to your latest blog posts. Lead in with something that asks a question. For example, you just wrote a post about redecorating your house on your blog, at Plurk create a post asking your friends how does my living room make you feel?
A quick Pro Tip: Create hyperlinks that hide the URLs by formatting your plurk in the following way:
Say you want to post a link to your website and make it more attractive hyperlink. Format it the following way.
https://www.lixena.xyz (ஐ Lixєna.xyz ஐ)
Search for your friends or find new plurkers by using the search box on your timeline. Or by clicking your name in the far right and select Recommended User. As you pick people to friend and follow others will friend and follow you.
The most important thing to remember is to share good content. Do not SPAM your friends of followers, put some real thought in how to engage others. Think of how none of your friends or family would not want to talk to you on the phone if you didn’t have anything entertaining, supportive, useful, or important to say.
Your Plurk account is valuable and your have a Karma rating that is affected by your activity on Plurk. Do visit your Plurk timeline often in order to increase your Karma.
